The 2010 New Zealand Rally Championship got underway on the weekend of 10 - 11 April in Otago, with Dean Sumner and co-driver Paul Fallon scoring the best possible start to the season by winning the event outright. This was followed by a third overall at Round 2 (Rally New Zealand) and Round 3 (Rally Whangarei). Dean and Paul then headed to Nelson and took a stronger hold of the championship by winning both days and scoring maximum points for the overall win. Sumner heads into the final round of the 2010 New Zealand Rally Championship at Wairarapa with a 29 point lead.
